The name Lake Field seems a little anomalistic, but it is exactly that, a large lake bed that has dried and has reverted to rough pasture. Part of this pasture has been planted up as a wildflower meadow and though it is not being maintained as such it will be rich in nectar and pollen sources. The grass tussocks and tall herb communities offer great refuge for invertebrates. Kestrels regularly hunting over the field indicate the abundance of small mammals present. |
